Having developed a unique way of working in wood for over 25 years, Loren Eiferman has come to a deep understanding of this material.  Her pieces usually begin with a drawing, an intention of what direction she wants the sculpture to go in. She starts each day with a walk in the woods to gather sticks that have fallen to the ground. Loren never chops down a living tree or uses green wood. Instead, she lets the wood sit in her studio for a period of time to cure.

“My work can be called the ultimate recycling: where I take the detritus of nature and turn it into a new art.  Nothing in my studio goes to waste.”
