Born in Tokyo, Japan, Naoko Ito is a New York-based artist working in sculpture, installation, and video. Her pieces are inspired by urban attempts to tame or contain nature. In this installation, which was part of the group exhibition that I curated for ArtYard last year, Naoko employs glass containers and severed tree branches. They convey the illusion of plant material growing through glass. Installing this piece took her long hours of careful work and we enjoyed watching the process.

I look forward to seeing the new work that Noko will be creating in the future. If you ever invite her to be part of a project, you won’t reget it, she’s one of the most positive people that you will ever meet.
