Dear friend,

So much has happened since my previous post. I haven’t forgotten about you, quiet the opposite. Everything that I’m doing is fueled by the anticipation of sharing it with you. So let me update you on everything.

*The Art Center

I still cannot believe that my greatest dream is coming true, and in the best way possible. I have joined 2 wonderful women in this adventure. One of them is our leader,  official founder, and Executive Director, the second lady is the Operations Director, and I’m the Creative Director. I will share more details about my partners in the future. They’re both a dream to work with. We continue to focus on the real estate part of our project. We already have an official name, a logo, and are in the process of building the website. This week is important because I’m traveling to the location of the art center for the next phase of our application. This is related to a variance to permit us to have a theatre in the main building. I believe that everything will be positive. People from the town in question will be voting and we need a big YES to keep moving forward. Fingers crossed!

*Paper Cutting Workshop

Organized by The Makerie and Sweet Paul Magazine, this workshop will be from Saturday, April 16, to Sunday, April 17, in Philadelphia, PA. All the details are HERE. I’m really excited about this workshop because it will be at the wonderful URBN Corporate Campus, home of the URBN brands of Anthropologie, BHLDN, Free People, Terrain and Urban Outfitters. I have heard so many interesting things about that building complex. But what I’m most excited about is meeting my students. I have put my heart into planning this workshop, so my students can go back home feeling happy about what they learned from me. I’m also super excited to meet the other teachers. There are still some open spaces for the class If you want to join us. My workshop is part of  a package. The event works as a creative retreat where the students have a menu of 10 different classes to enjoy. You can see them all HERE.

*My Solo Show in NYC

Opening on May 4, at the National Arts Club, this is another project that I have put my heart into. All the details are here:  TIMELINE Press Release. I had the enormous privilege and the pleasure to have Magda González-Mora as my curator.  She’s one of the most talented women that I know. The first time we ever worked on a project, I was still living in Havana. It has been so special for us to re-connect professionally after all these years. Magda is like a sister to me, we even share the same surname. Did you notice that? She will be at my opening and I can’t wait for you to meet her in person. You can find more details about Magda on the press release: TIMELINE Press Release.

*Invitation to The National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

The 4th exciting thing that I want to share with you if that Magda and I have been invited to do a lecture at The National Gallery of Art. It is part of a program called “Works in Progress”, which is open to the public. We will be talking about our show TIMELINE, and some topics related to Cuba. Stay tuned if you’re in Washington, DC! We’re in the process or organizing this event. I will share more details soon. But it will take place right on May 9th, the day when I turn 45!  What a better way for an artist to spend her birthday talking about art in a lovely city with lovely people? I see it as a treat and I’m so looking forward to it!

Well, that is all for now. I hope that you’re doing great, that your health is strong and that your creativity is on fire. But if for any reason you’re going through a hard time, please hang in there! Remember that things always get better. Life has its ups and downs. Look at my case, not too long ago I got a call that my hubby had suffered a massive heart attack. My own heart almost stopped. And now he’s here with us, safe and sound, and my heart is singing while I write this post. Life is beautiful.

Sending a hug and lots of good wishes!

Elsita
