Carrie Witherell was born in New Hampshire in 1982. She graduated from RISD in 2011 and currently lives in Austin, TX. I discovered her work through my personal friend and work partner at ArtYard, Jill Kearney. She had purchased the horse when Carrie was still a student. The first time I saw that piece, I thought that it was an X-ray of an actual animal. But I soon learned that it was a cyanotype using paper cutouts to create the appearance of a skeleton. I had never seen anything like it; I fell in love with her technique right away.
Fabulous!
Hi Virginia!
They’re even more spectacular in person 🙂

They’re elegant and beautiful and, in a way, beautifully sad, with just a touch of our mortality embedded within. Thank you for sharing her work with us.
Thanks, Amy!
I enjoyed reading your words.
