I recently discovered the most extensive source of Mexican embroideries that I have ever seen. This large photographic collection is Bob Freund’s labor of love. Original from Clifton, New Jersey, Bob has dedicated his life to documenting the disappearing textiles of Mexico.
Bob’s collection is a priceless source of inspiration for illustrators, crafters, designers, art teachers…I highly recommend it for studying its colors, different compositions and figures.

Beautiful! I was fortunate to have found some 5×5″ embroidery pieces in Cancun a couple years ago. I bought two and I treasure them very much. One is hanging on the lower left corner of my iMac 🙂
That’s great, Kim! I found a beautiful one on Etsy that I am using as a tablecloth 🙂

Beautiful works of art! Art which relates to culture and is handed down to new generations is so inspiring.
I loved this post! I have been obsessed with Mexican embroidery for a long time now. I have been happy with the current design trend of Mexican-looking embroidery in clothing and I keep snatching it up with the fear that it will go out-of-style. But I will always love it and wear it regardless of whether it is in or out. I am always on the lookout for authentic vintage pieces too so this post was a beautiful treat. Thank you.

I have a huge piece of this “Tenangos” (that´s their name) in my studio! ONE OF MY FAVORITE CRAFTS FROM MY DEAR COUNTRY! 😀
I love all things Mexican (although I’m from Spain 😉 )
and the embroideries are just wonderful.
Hugs.
