Every time I go to the supermarket I am magnetically drawn to the beans. Nature did such a good job creating them. Here is a post is to celebrate these little wonders.
My original motivation for creating these GIF animations was to inspire Diego to like beans. His diet is limited, which is the case for many autistic children. But I hope that these dancing beans help him look at them in a positive way.
Do you have any special bean recipe to share? A link maybe?
Elsa, I love the bean animation! I remember when I was young, back in Brazil when the grains and beans were stored in huge sacks at the market, and I used to love sticking my hands in the bean sack and just enjoyed the feeling of moving them around before switching to he next sack. I made two big sensory boxes for my daughter when she was 3, one big plastic tub of rice and one of beans, the best toys she ever had. She is 4 now and we still spend hours playing in it, the possibilities are endless, we just recently dyed the rice rainbow colors and it’s like a new toy all over again.
Here is a recipe for you, I remember eating this on Saturdays when I was growing up with my extended family sitting and talking for hours, I never cared for the meat in it but it does give the beans a nice flavor. Give it a try –

Thank you for bringing back these memories 🙂
Thank you, Erika! I love the recipe and I can’t wait to make it. Also, the sensory box that you made for your daughter is genius. Diego would love something like it, plus it would help him calm down when he is dysregulated.

I love these bean animations! Wonderful idea to use as an education tool. Visually beans are a delight, we are growing some yard long beans this year and they are intriguing and delicious. The garden is consuming lots of creative energy but it will hopefully rebound into painting inspiration for the rest of the year. Thank you for all your inspiring posts and congratulations on the Crafts article.

Catharine, it is great that you’re growing beans in your garden. When I lived in Cuba, they used to grow all over the place and it was so much fun. Gardening consumes lots of energy, but it is such a rewarding thing. Thanks for liking the posts that I share here! 🙂

I too am a bean-lover. I have recently been obsessed with fava beans and photographing them and just did a post about how to prepare them – http://nessydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/06/fava-beans-how-to-prepare.html. My husband also loves to cook and he made a great fava bean and salmon pasta salad. The recipe is here – http://nessydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/06/fava-bean-salmon-pasta-salad-with.html. I had never thought of animating beans – that adds a whole other wonderful dimension! Love it!

Your history is almost true. My dad was Irving Naxon. He was a brilliant inventor. The earliest rendition of the crockpot was the Naxon Beanery, and was sold exclusively to lunch counters and coffee shops. It was also sold during the 1950s via Sears and Wards.
The initial recipes actually came with the Beanery or Flavor Crock as is was later known. They were given to the folks at Rival. who expanded upon them. I actually have those old recipe flyers.
Always best to go to accurate and original sources rather than Wikipedia or other journalists when researching.
I really miss cooking if I have a week of being out every day. And I don’t seem to be that good at planning my diary, I have weeks of nothing then weeks when I am out twice a day!digital marketing
Thank you for the recipe! I have been wanting to do this for so long and I promised myself that this will be the year I stop putting it off. I also liked that you made a smaller batch since I will be needing to do the same.Darren Wogman
