“Talk to younger artists and they’re all crazy about Alice Mackler,” said Mackler’s dealer Kerry Schuss. An emerging artist in her 80s, Alice Mackler was born in New York in 1931 (currently 87). She worked as an office manager in the city for several years and then obtained a degree in arts when she was in her 60s. Mackler’s work has become a sensation. She has been creating these small sculptures of women for some time now, as well as collage paintings and ink portraits. Alice doesn’t use email or a telephone, all communication needs to be done in person or by snail mail.
“I feel more comfortable with my work now, and I know that I am doing the best work in 2104,” she said, before offering up advice to young artists today. “Keep on working, and tell yourself that you are a better artist than anyone else.”
