The other day I was doing an Internet search on the word mosaic when the name Isaiah Zagar came up. As it happens with the Internet, one link takes you to the next link and then sometimes you end up discovering something great. That’s exactly how I discovered In a Dream, a documentary about Isaiah Zagar.
Isaiah (born 1939) is a Philadelphia mosaic artist. He is notable for his murals which are primarily in or around Philadelphia’s South Street. But there is a lot more than mosaics in his life. Through In a Dream, you get to see an intimate human portrait of Isaiah and his wife Julia. Below is something that I drew inspired by the movie.
Over the past four decades, Isaiah Zagar has covered more than 50,000 square feet of Philadelphia with stunning mosaic murals. In A Dream is a documentary feature film that chronicles his work and his tumultuous relationship with his wife, Julia. It follows the Zagars as their marriage implodes and a harrowing new chapter in their life unfolds.
