The Real Boat on Kickstarter. A Project Illustrated by Victoria Antolini.

The Real Boat on Kickstarter. A Project Illustrated by Victoria Antolini.

Dear friends, Today I want to share a beautiful project that Victoria Antolini is trying to bring to life through a Kickstarter campaign, in collaboration with a wonderful team of creatives. Victoria is a super talented Italian artist and her project is called The Real Boat. The Real Boat is an inspiring story written by Marina Aromshtam, perfect to read to your children in a cozy rainy day. The story is about courage, tenacity, and the wonders of the sea. It all starts with a tiny paper boat that is not satisfied with life in a puddle, and dreams of going far away to the wide and deep ocean. Many of us have been that little paper boat at the beginning of our journeys. The idea is to bring the story of The Real Boat to life in a digital format, (phone, tablets, and computers) so we can experience it with motion and sound. You will also be able to interact with it. I’m excited about the visual part of this project. Victoria is the perfect artist for it...

New Handmade Boxes.

New Handmade Boxes.

* Here are 2 more boxes that I made for the new house (first one is here). Can you guess what I used for the bottom of this round box? Surprise! You can try to guess in the comments. I made the lid out of thick paper board (the one used for book binding). Then I decorated it with acrylic paint. I wanted this little one to look like something old found at a flea market. The bird is an imaginary creature; a mix of a giraffe and an extra large turkey. It doesn’t sound very romantic, but it sounds intriguing. I’m planning to use this one for small earrings. What’s the connection between a big bird, a ship, and earrings? Mmm, let me see… While I think about the meaning of the first box, let’s take a look at the second one. Made of foam board, covered with paper and painted with acrylic paint. I always apply several layers of acrylic varnish on these boxes for protection. But I didn’t...

These drawings are gifts that she created for her friends in LA before we moved to NY. Look at them in detail to see how she describes their personalities. So much fun! Natalie created the banner for this post. Casual Characters is the same that she gave to this...

The Water and The Wild. Available for Pre-order.

The Water and The Wild. Available for Pre-order.

* Dear friends, I had the honor to design the cover of a special novel for young readers called The Water and the Wild  (Chronicle Books). This book was written by super talented K. E. Ormsbee and I loved reading it. Ormsbee currently lives in Lexington, Kentucky. She lived in lots of equally fascinating cities before then, from Austin to Birmingham to London to Seville. She grew up with a secret garden in her backyard and a spaceship in her basement. This is her first book and I’m sure that many more will follow. She has an amazing imagination. Alison Decamp left this review over at Good Reads : “This book is richly imagined with such compelling characters and high stakes. I’m in awe of the author’s storytelling and look forward to more!” Here is a general description: “For as long as Lottie Fiske can remember, the only people who seem to care about her have been her best friend, Eliot, and the mysterious letter-writer who sends her birthday gifts. But now strange things and...
