I WILL BE TEACHING PAPERCUTTING THIS SUMMER
**
**
Dear friend,
As the title of this post indicates, I will be teaching papercutting this Summer. I would be thrilled if you could join me as a student. Every detail is being taken care of to make sure that this experience is instructive, fun and inspiring. Below you will find all the details about the workshop:
Where: Portland, Oregon
Dates: July 11 – July 15, 2013
Organizer→ Angela Ritchie Camps
Learn about the fees and other details → Angela Ritchie’s Website
Drop me an e-mail if you have any questions:
The workshop is limited to 16 students. The sooner you register the better.
Excuse the terrible quality of the video below. I just wanted to do something quick and simple to show you how easy starting in papercutting is.
Itinerary:
July 11, 2013
Travel Day
Arrive at Ace Hotel, get settled and meet in lobby for walk to location where we will gather for Meet + Greet. I can’t wait to meet you in person! Casual attire. Let’s not forget our cameras.
Dinner to follow. This will allow us to get familiar with each other. My husband, Natalie and Diego are coming with me. They will be out and about while I teach, but they will more likely join us for dinner that night.
Enjoy some images of the Ace Hotel, were we will be staying:

9:00 – Meet in lobby
Today is when the real fun starts, let’s walk to our location. Are you ready? Demonstration, discussion and practice cutting techniques using an X-Acto knife and paper. This step by step process will be a great opportunity to give you the basics of paper cutting. I will guide you through the process of how you can cut these pieces all by yourself. You will learn how to cut curves, the proper length of cuts, how to hold the knife, what kind of paper to use and how to set your mood into the perfect relaxed feeling to work perfectly to complete your project from beginning to end.
Below is an example of the material that I am preparing for you:

The cuts that I used on the piece below are a combination of the ones in the practice sheet above..

Continue to work on skills. Complete a step by step beginner’s project using a pattern. I am creating a special design for this workshop for you to complete. You don’t need to bring any paper. I will take care of that. All you need is your own X-Acto knife with extra #11 X-Acto blades, a pencil, an eraser and a small self-healing cutting mat. The one that I’m bringing for myself is a 12″ x 18″ one.
July 14, 2013
More advanced techniques will be taught today, such as how to give the paper a little volume (as in the piece above). The class will work on the final element of the workshop which consists of a more technical project and the students will use all the skills learned in the first stages of the workshop to complete a project they have designed. Everyone will go home with a completed piece ready for framing.

Check out and travel day. Saying good-bye, with a smile
Because I have a bonus for each one of my students. Surprise!
I know that this experience will positive for all of us. Looking forward to it!
Elsita
PS: My friends Geninne and Margie are planning to join the workshop. I’m so excited! My wish is that you can join us as well.

Always a pleasure hun, and one day Elsa when Orla is older (at Uni) I shall pack up my stuff and do some wandering, go see all the wonderful friends I have made on the web in the last 16 years or so.
Have a great weekend.

Lorie, that’s the same thing that I tell Bill. When Natalie and Diego are older, I will be able to travel and do all the things that I dream about, such as meeting my Internet friends in person. Since my children were born I had to stop traveling, I can only do it with them and Bill for vacation, which is fun. But that’s what you do when you have children. My Mom always says: enjoy this time because one day you will miss it
