Beautiful Bugs Photographed by Geoff Gallice.

In Geoff Gallice‘s words: “Despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Earth’s animals are tropical insects, almost nothing is known about even their basic biology. As a graduate student at the University of Florida’s Entomology and Nematology Department and the Florida Museum of Natural History, I am studying large-scale patterns in abundance and distribution for the first time in a mega-diverse Neotropical insect group, butterflies of the family Nymphalidae.”

Thanks, Geoff, for making these photos  available to our curious eyes. They are so beautiful! And I didn’t know that overwhelming majority of Earth’s animals are tropical insects.

  1. There is no greater artist than nature…

  2. Oh! Endless beauty of Nature! Thanks Geoff and Elsa. Our bugs are in relatively short supply this time of year… and in this hemisphere.

  3. Great reference for patterns and color schèmes!

  4. These photographs are wonderful. I have loved insects ever since I was a child and my daughter has followed in my footsteps and saved many a pillbug from being stepped on. If you enjoy these photos, I urge you to also check out Christopher Marley http://www.lynnphoto.com as his work is similarly amazing. Thanks for sharing, Elsa!
